Getting excited!

I am ready to celebrate Christmas. After spending time during a great Thanksgiving and recent wedding with family and remembering our blessings I look forward to more. This time of year is good for that. Last night when we turned on the lights that were hung on the porch I was reminded of the light He gives us when we are lost. The lights resemble this to me more than ever. I also saw a beautiful nativity scene this morning on the way to work. It always brings me warmth and peace when I gaze upon it. After reading Jamie's blog, "Blogging with Ida," I am also reminded of this meaning of Christmas and am inspired to teach Savannah about it as well and to set aside all the commercialism she is exposed to. I hope she will understand and learn it in her heart too.

Hey!

I have two children's Bibles that we read from. To be honest, I don't love either of them because I want Ida to learn scripture more than read Bible stories...and the children's Bibles I have are mostly just watered down stories.

The Beginners Bible(publisher: Zonderkidz)was a great start for when she was little. And now we moved up to My First Message(a devotional Bible for kids). This one has questions at the end of each story and is more true to scripture.

I also have found some books of scriptures for children which have been good. The one we've been using to memorize verses is My ABC Bible Verses by Susan Hunt. The explanations of each verse are a little corny, but great for your daughter's age.

There are some great Christmas stories that we love to read aloud. My favorite is The Christmas Miracle of Jonathan Toomey. It makes me cry every time I read it! I have some others as well, I need to get them out and type out the titles for you if you are interested.

Oh wait...and one more good one(aren't you sorry you asked?) I just ordered Lisa Welchel's The Adventure of Christmas: Helping Children Find Jesus in Our Holiday Traditions. This if full of ideas for parents. I got it on amazon.com.

Hope that helps!

One more thing...

We were doing our "What God Wants for Christmas" this morning and I thought of you. I'm thinking Savannah would love this, Ida does. You can do it all at once or spread it out over 7 days. It's really neat!

I got it a our local Christian bookstore, but I'm sure they have it online too.

Ok, last comment...I promise;o)
